Tell us a little about your background and mom life…
When I opened my business I had three children, (5, 3 years old and 3 months old. I didn’t anticipate that my business would take off as quickly as it did and I had to learn how to juggle being a full time mom and a business woman.

“I quickly learned how to wear both hats, taking care of my family and my newly growing business.”

Finally, I started taking client appointments in the evening, so I could concentrate on taking care of my children and their needs. I spent many late nights working on my putting projects together as the kids slept, but found a great balance between work and family.

Why did you decide to open Cashmere and Vine Interiors ?
The idea of running my own company came after the birth of my last child. This may sound completely cliché, but I was watching an episode of Oprah rocking him to sleep. The show topic was about turning your passion into your career. As I sat there rocking him, I looked down at his precious face and began thinking that in just five short years, he would be off to school. Plus, I knew he was my last child. I began to wonder what I was going to do. I asked myself: what is your passion?

At that time, I had just moved into a new home in a new neighborhood. I loved picking out the selections for my home and all of the interior furnishings. I would frequently help friends in the neighborhood put their rooms together as well and I truly enjoyed it.

So that began the process of me thinking: “Could I possibly turn this into my career?”
Over the next several weeks I did my research. I read anything I could find that related to design and the design world. It was then that I realized this had really sparked my creative side. With just a dream and a five year vision plan, I asked a friend of mine to partner with me in the venture. Within a few months, we had opened our own Interior Design Business.

One Saturday afternoon, we set out on a mission. We cold called four builders. Out of those four cold calls, we received three new clients. With the designing of the three model homes, this led to residential clients and then an opportunity to design three homes in a Home-A-Rama Showcase (taking first place in the show.) This all happened within the first year and I quickly realized following my passion had paid off. I also realized that the five year plan I had quickly accelerated and I would now have to juggle being a full-time business owner and mom.

What is unique about your business?
I am so lucky being in the business I am. I get to work with clients creating their dream homes or dream spaces. That is the best part of my job! I love all things design and would best describe my style as warm modern with a touch of class. I love the feeling that is created when I use opposites in a room…light and dark, soft and textured. Bringing in different elements into a space adds a wonderful balance and look to any room. It is the Cashmere and Vine concept.

Why should our readers become a client?
In designing for my clients, I do just that; design for them and their lifestyles. I believe that a home should be warm, comfortable and livable. As a designer, my job is to guide my clients into designing what they envision. Their spaces will always reflect their personality and taste, making their house truly their home.

What exciting things are coming up for Cashmere & Vine?
I am very excited that I was recently spotlighted on the house tipster industry website!

I am also meeting up with The Live Broadcast Network, Joseph Haecker and Elegant Mosaics for two Industry shows. The first is the Modernism Show in Palm Springs and the second is the Kitchen and Bath Industry show in Vegas. We will be doing press interviews and touring showrooms, looking at all the new products out this year.

What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
Coming from Michigan, I would say hands down the best part is the weather. It is truly hard not to be in a good mood living down here. I love waking up every morning to the warm sunshine and wondering where my day is going to take me. I also really enjoy the networking groups and events in the area. I’ve met some amazing people and business contacts here and am looking forward to growing my business further!
